WebObjects is now free with Tiger

From $50,000 to free in Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) developer tools. "The software has historical importance to Apple-watchers: it was originally released in March 1996 - but not by Apple. In fact, WebObjects was developed by NeXT Computer and became Apple's software only when that company acquired Steve Jobs' second computer company later that year."

"While not software on the tip of every Mac users tongue, WebObjects sits behind several significant implementations - the most famous current example being Apple's iTunes Music Store."

Wal-Mart Selling iPods

According to Morgan Stanley, the "Wal-Mart pact broader than some realize." Wow really, that's news to me. Meanwhile, Rebecca Runkle an analyst for Morgan Stanley says “While we don’t believe Apple iPod availability at Wal-Mart is completely new news..." Is there such a thing as new news? It seems that Apple and Wal-Mart have teamed up for a "test" in which Wal-Mart gets the privilege to sell iPods in select locations. Fellow iPod Loungers have spotted various iPod models in their local Florida, Indiana and Texas Wal-Mart.

Think Wal-Mart

Numbers in the iWork?

On June 8th Apple filed for a standard character mark for the word "Numbers." Could this mean that Apple is working on a spreadsheet application to later incorporate into the iWork Suite? Yes, that's exactly what it means!

iWork with #'s

Mactel?

Besides sounding horrible, Apple has applied to trademark the term "Mactel" with the US Trademark and Patent Office. No word yet on whether Apple plans on using what sounds like a derogatory term for future Mac's running on Intel processors. A speculation has been made, that it's an effort by Apple to prevent future PC userz from trying to formulate quick-witted insults.

I know you are...

Dell Can Go To Hell!

Michael Dell says he’d sell Apple’s Mac OS. Guess what Mikey, you can go to Hell! Be happy you got an iPod. Why would we need you, huh? You can keep your black boxes and we'll keep watch to see when you start your line of knock-off mini's. One last thing, STOP sending me your disgusting PC catalogs! You the reader might find this article to be good for a chuckle, enjoy.

A Chronicle of a Crazy Mom's eBay Addiction (with pics)

OMG! I thought I was bad. Found on DiGG:

This website is a son documenting in pictures how insane his mother is with ebay buying. She has every single room in their house stacked to the ceiling with crap. Look at all the pictures - this is creepy!

Honey, I Shrunk the PC

Scientists at the University of Arizona have discovered how to use quantum mechanics to turn molecules into working transistors in the lab, a breakthrough that might one day lead to high-powered computers the size of a postage stamp.

Computers to Run 10GHz

Forget about Intel:

The scientists from the Henry Samueli School of Engineering, at UC Irvine, said that they have demonstrated transmitting information at 10 GHz using new, carbon nanotube technology. Carbon nanotube technology removes the speed limitations that currently exist in copper and aluminum wiring.

A Pirate Shanty

Suport your independent Mac developers. I got this message today after trying to use what appears to be a wrong serial number:

A Pirate Shanty

I'm a pirate! That I be!
I sail me ship upon the sea!
I stay up late - till half past three!
And that's a peg below me knee!

I've got no hand but that's me hook!
I pillage stuff but I'm no crook.
Me booty's in this chest I took.
They'll write about me in a book!

Apple's WWDC 2005 Keynote Address

Apple kicked off their Worldwide Developers Conference this Monday from San Francisco's Moscone West. I tuned in to see the keynote address from my home using a cable connection. My brother and I, both anxious to hear if the rumors were true. We patiently waited throught the whole statistics part that we have become familiar with before the good parts finally start. We're both looking forward to what seems to be a great decision (Intel).

Our problem is, why can't we download our own copy of the keynote address? Why is it that I have to sit through a streaming video when I am a faithful Mac user? The WWDC has become the annual pilgrimage all the loyal swarm to. Listen, Steve, from now on make the keynotes downloadable and in H.264 format, we deserve that much!

Apple IS GOING TO ditch IBM, switch to Intel chips

I believe this is VERY UNLIKELY since Tiger has just been released and might pose compatibility issues. DUH! It is still worth posting and letting you draw your own conclusion:

Apple Computer plans to announce Monday that it's scrapping its partnership with IBM and switching its computers to Intel's microprocessors, CNET News.com has learned. Apple has used IBM's PowerPC processors since 1994, but will begin a phased transition to Intel's chips, sources familiar with the situation said.
